Geol. Mike Karanja is a dynamic Kenyan with astute technical and managerial experience covering geothermal applications, mining, oil and gas, groundwater, surface water, and geotechnical fields, having practiced across East Africa in various capacities.
He is the Chief Executive Officer of the Geothermal Association of Kenya, a position he has held since March 2018.
His role as CEO of GAK is to promote the holistic development of geothermal resources in Kenya working hand in hand with sector Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) such as KenGen, GDC, EPRA, Independent Power Producers, investors, manufacturers, and financial institutions among others.
This has seen the contribution of geothermal energy in Kenya grow significantly over the years. He is an established Boardroom specialist and has an exceptional range of Boardroom skills acquired over his career, in corporate governance, leadership, strategy, and Board support.
He is a Master of Science (Geology) and Bachelor of Science (Geology) graduate from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. The Master’s Degree specialized in techniques for the exploration of mineral deposits, geothermal, oil, gas, coal, and groundwater.
He is a specialist in Environmental Impact Assessment, GIS, and a conference speaker, and moderator.
